Etisalat’s SmartHub ranked among top global innovations for 2011

Dubai -UAE: 4 March, 2013

In another validation of Etisalat’s digital ecosystem-led hub strategy, SmartHub, the Capacity, Content and Mobile Services hub offered by the Corporation’s Carrier and Wholesale Services, was ranked among the top global innovations for 2011 by Ovum Consulting.

Etislat’s SmartHub is the only solution of its kind, providing the content ecosystem with access to key telecom technologies and services and connectivity to Etisalat’s regional customer base. SmartHub was ranked the third best global innovation after Tinet’s “Ethercloud” and Deutsche Telekom’s “Wi-Fi Mobilize” services, which were also launched last year. Ovum Consulting is the consulting arm of Ovum, one of the premier ICT and telecom-focused advisory and consulting firms with global coverage.

Etisalat’s SmartHub allows any content provider – Content Delivery Network, Content Management System, Conditional Access Provide or other content provider, aggregator or telco – to partner with Etisalat and quickly and efficiently reach out to millions of regional customers removing the need for these companies to invest in developing their own assets. The SmartHub was launched in October last year in line with Etisalat’s efforts to maintain the UAE’s leadership role as the de-facto hub for internet, content and telecommunication services in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region.

Speaking on the achievement, Ali Amiri, Executive Vice President of Etisalat’s Carrier and Wholesale Services, said: “At a time when innovation is becoming the measure of success within the telecommunications and ICT sector, we are delighted to be recognized by an important industry stakeholder such as Ovum Consulting.”

We have matched this innovative approach to leverage our significant investments in international connectivity to operate the largest capacity, content and IP hub in the region. These efforts support our Government’s desire to ensure the UAE maintains its position as the regional IP and content hub.”

“Innovation in the ICT sector is opening up new avenues for telecommunications providers and content creators across the world and Etisalat has been at the centre of this evolution within the wider Mena region. The Corporation started its journey towards a digital media ecosystem in 2008, building on almost a decade of experience gained from providing TV services through e-Vision. We have gone from strength to strength since then, securing a large customer base and developing a rich communication eco-system that we can share with all partners servicing the region,” he added.

Recently, Capacity magazine recognized the UAE as the leading content hub in the region, with the SmartHub being a key factor. SmartHub combines resilient global and regional connectivity, with a complete service suite for Content Providers, Internet Service Providers and Mobile Operators.
